Personal Statement


I am a very motivated individual, who will work hard to ensure that what needs to be done, gets done. I graduated from Hull University in 2022 with a degree in Computer Science for Games development. I am currently a graduate web developer.

I work well as part of a team and enjoy collaborating with others, however, I work well individually, depending on what the task requires. I have several years non-professional experience in software development.

Relevant work experience:

Graduate web developer at Heavy Penguin – November 2022 – Present:

I am currently a graduate web developer for Heavy Penguin. My current responsibilities include bug fixes on client websites, implementing new features that are requested, and making sure that installation of Drupal and any plugins we have installed are up-to-date to have the latest security fixes. I have also created a custom Drupal module that integrates with the JIRA REST API, allowing admins of one of our clients to see which JIRA tickets are open, what their status is, and who is assigned to the tickets.

  • PHP – I have a good understanding of PHP and API integrations.
  • TWIG/HTML – I have a great understanding of the TWIG framework for PHP along with its HTML use.
  • CSS/SCSS – I have a fair grasp on the basics of CSS and SCSS.
  • C# – I am proficient within this language and striving to get a deeper understanding and of how it works to become more proficient.
  • C++ – I have a simple understanding of C++ and aim to get a deeper understanding of how C++ works.
  • JavaScript – I have some basic knowledge of JavaScript from my time as a web developer.
  • Unity Game engine – I have a solid understanding of the workings of this engine.
  • I am a quick learner – At my previous employment, learning quick was a necessity, as delays meant annoyed customers and loss of profit for the company.
  • Good Communication – At previous employment, communication was often key to a successful work day, I grew more confident and my ability to communicate effectively grew.

July 2017 to March 2018

I volunteered at a YMCA Charity shop as I wanted to gain experience working in a retail environment, whilst volunteering, I –

  • Built Customer interaction skills.
  • Merchandised and replenished stock to ensure availability,
  • Developed team work ethics,
  • Worked at the point at purchase/cash handling.

I also have some work experience in a tech support company offering remote support, in field engineers for companies and individuals, and a shop for customers to bring in electronic devices to have them fixed, or to buy equipment. 

This gave me a good insight into more in depth customer support and gave me a confidence boost in asking questions when unsure of a procedure or what to do in a specific situation.


December 2017 to March 2019

I also have experience working in McDonalds while studying for my A levels as I wanted to challenge myself in developing my current skills and learning new one’s ahead of going to university.

March 2019 to January 2021

I joined Tactical Solutions a Field Marketing Agency. This gave me varied experience with working in various supermarkets and I gained experience on stocking, merchandising, and facing the store to make shelves look stocked and ready for customers to buy products.

June 2021 to September 2021

I worked in a small family restaurant called IL VINO over the summer of 2021. This was a fast paced environment which allowed me to further develop my communication skills. The fast paced environment meant I was always busy with something and always learning to be more efficient at the task at hand.

Hobbies & Interest


I play the guitar as an amateur and enjoy meeting with my friends to play Dungeons and Dragons. I am currently spending some of my free time working on a game. I also aim to deepen my overall knowledge of computer science and new concepts within the field by watching lectures, and reading articles about topics that interest me.

I have a full, clean, driving licence.
